D.I.H. and friends @ Christmas 2023 submissions open

Back again for its 21st anniversary (Barring a few gaps of course) and its 18th album somehow, DIH and Friends at Christmas are now opening their doors on a submission call out for ambient, drone, metal, singer-songwriter, experimental and poetry to name but a few genres (all welcome really) on the theme of Christmas.

The history of the project from Digital Vomit states ‘The origin behind the infamous series of DIH with friends at Christmas began back in 2002 when for a one-off joke as a side project from his more official work in DIH, Andy N one year decided with the help of one or two friends decided to do in his words ‘ A Christmas album for those people who don’t really like Christmas’ where in the space of half an hour (as was the original plan) – Andy and a few friends would murder, cripple and take the piss out of as many songs as they could.

However, as is the nature of the beast with this sort of thing things snowballed and by the time the second album came along, It had become officially a DIH project where they would between the three of them alongside an ever-increasing cast-off friends playing around with the myth of the Christmas, which will often be funny and sad sometimes within the same breath.

The music contained within this series of albums is varied and can vary from spoken word (sometimes with musical backing or experimental backing), acoustic singer-songwriter stuff to music that could appeal to fans of Aphex Twin, hardcore, breakbeats, dubstep, fans of the spoken word, re-imagining of carols and classic songs, faithful versions of Christmas carols and songs and generally people who like their music to challenge and make them think.

For reasons too long-winded and just plain boring to go into here, DIH took a break from the Christmas albums in 2012 before starting up again in 2015. Following on from their 2015 comeback, we are now expecting submissions for our 2023 album, our fifth album since starting up again with anything and everything encouraged from experimental, drones, ambient, Christmas Carols, Poems, songs... whatever takes your fancy really.

Please send submissions to Andy N at aen1mpo@yahoo.co.uk if you are using Wetransfer etc, please include a cover note. Please submit in a WAV format if possible.

Me and Keith can also be contacted via Facebook for further questions

Unplanned weekend in Blackpool (From Changing carriages in Birmingham New Street)

The latest piece on my substack account is a second piece from my new10th and final full-length poetry book ‘Changing Carriages at Birmingham New Street’.

As discussed before, Changing Carriages at Birmingham New Street’ was began in 2017 during the creation of my third book “The Birth of Autumn” which then took a life on its own afterwards.

The story itself talks through a series of memories told by an unnamed narrator of firstly of a friendship he had growing up with a girl called Sarah who came back into his life after over a twenty-year gap with the pair of them in deeply unhappy marriages changing everything forever.

Inspired by the clarify in Hugo Williams's book dock leaves and the expressive nature of Paul Auster’s poetry, this book will take the reader on a series of journeys up and down the northwest of England and beyond using their adventures in towns and cities to show how everything changes often without realising.

The second piece ‘Unplanned Weekend at Blackpool’ is one of the earliest poems written for this book and one of the starkest also talking of a weekend away early in the relationship for the couple when a night out in Blackpool went out in a very unexpected way.

The piece can be read here: https://andyn.substack.com/p/unplanned-weekend-in-blackpool

Hopefully the book will be out shortly.

New Spoken Label Session - Phoenix Andrews

Latest up from Spoken Label (Author / Artist Podcast) and featuring Amanda Nicholson as special guest co-host features the debut of a longstanding friend of ours, Phoenix Andrews. Phoenix advises he is a "writer living in West Sussex, UK. I started out as a musician, playing piano, writing and recording songs, but soon fell in love with writing poetry and short stories. This has since progressed into novels. I am passionate about writing in the genres of crime fiction and horror and my first published book, Blood Cells is pure testimony to this. Based around a small group of central characters, I have included as a dark element of conspiracy which, I have to confess, is another guilty pleasure of mine, however farfetched! Don't worry, I don't believe everything I read. Blood Cells is the first in a series of novels centered around these characters, with a dark, supernatural theme running through them which goes high up to the top levels of government. I hope you enjoy the thrilling ride!" He can be emailed at ppapublishing@gmail.com Facebook - www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100091862503703 Tiktok @phoenixandrews His book can be purchased on Amazon etc. *
