Paul Blackburn - R.I.P.

Sad news to read about Paul Blackburn passing earlier on today.

I first met Paul at either Write Out Middleton or Write Out Sale somewhere around the 2008 territory and always found an entertaining and funny guy to meet and see/hear read and the energy he put into the early days of Write Out Loud and later the work he did with Live from Worktown / PreeTa Press deserves respect from everybody alone.

My favourite story I remember was just before lockdown at Write Out Loud Stockport in the summer of 2019 I guess when he bought along a copy of a book that had just been published. I remember it saying on the writer’s quotes at the back when looking at a quote from the American Novelist ‘Paul Auster’ stating ‘I admire you’.

People will know Auster is one of my favourite novelists and I asked Paul B where he got that from. Paul stated this was at a Launch for his novel 4,3,2,1 in Manchester where he got talking to the great man and Auster said ‘I admire you’. Paul B then quickly asked him Can I use that? And well..

I certainly wouldn’t have had the guts to ask him. He has my respect for that LOL. Rest easy m8. You’ve done a great service to poetry / spoken word in Manchester and the North West (UK)

Kate Wilson - New Spoken Label Podcast session

Latest up from Spoken Label (Author / Poetry Podcast) features the return of our friend, Kate Wilson talking about her new poetry collection 'The Impossibility of Love'.

‘The Impossibility of Love’ it is stated takes the reader on a journey through a gallery of Vincent Van Gogh’s best loved paintings. The poems in this collection draw inspiration from Van Gogh’s works of art, reflecting on themes of love, loss, and memory.

This ekphrastic sequence evokes the blistering colour of Van Gogh’s work in wheatfields, on moonlit plazas, and under starry skies. In this landscape the poet finds hope and a potency of feeling which often borders on destructive. The paintings become both a means

of escape and a way of deriving meaning as they intersect with the poet’s own experience.

Writing to Van Gogh with great tenderness, Wilson presents the reader with a collection which can be read as an extended love letter to one of our greatest artists.

She explores the tragic story of his life, posing the question: what does it mean to live with such intensity?

Birth - Blurb for my debut novel

Step into the mesmerizing world of "Birth," the debut novel by Manchester-based poet, podcaster, and ambient musician, Andy N.

Delve deep into the psyche of a young writer as this extraordinary tale offers a poetic, sad, and often hilarious portrait of his coming-of-age journey as his creativity is almost literally dragged out of him into the beginning of his journey as a poet, into fronting a five-piece acoustic band, and so much more.

In this captivating narrative, the reader is taken on a profound exploration of the writer's upbringing, skillfully woven with evocative prose that casts a spellbinding charm. "Birth" is a novel where the young writer's world is painted with a palette of feelings, where joy and sorrow dance hand in hand, and humor is found even in the darkest corners.

"Birth" is more than just a novel; it is an ode to the human spirit, a celebration of the written word, and a testament to the resilience of the creative soul.

So, open the cover and step into the world of "Birth," where the boundaries between reality and fiction fade, and the heart of a young writer beats with unyielding passion. What happens next is a testament to the magic of storytelling and the boundless potential of a pen.

* Should be out in November *
