Rich Rubin (New Spoken Label Podcast, May 2025)

Latest up from Spoken Label (Author / Artist Podcast) features making his debut, Rich Rubin, author the day before it rained.

Rubin's debut book 'The Day Before It Rained' is described as an eclectic collection of short stories ranging from quirky portraits to tales of LGBTQ+ relationships; plus eccentric takes on friendship, romance, and everything in between. Whether period pieces or modern day works, from the magical to the mundane, from the heart of Kansas to the Yorkshire moors or the Tunisian desert, the stories span the years, travel the globe, and explore the spectrum of emotions. The author’s characters discover love, loss, hope, and fear—in other words, the dubious joy of being human.

Rich Rubin has written fiction for decades. He also spent thirty years writing about travel and food (the best job in the world, literally), with over 1000 stories in print in such publications as Travel & Leisure, National Geographic Traveler, Saveur, The Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Out and About, and others.

More about Rich can be found on his website which is: https://www.richrubinwriter.com/

Kathryn Millington - Spoken Label April 2025

Latest up from Spoken Label (Spoken Word / Poetry Podcast) features making her debut is Kathryn Millington talking about her debut poetry collection 'Imprint'.

Some thoughts said about Kathryn's collection:

“It is rare to find a collection that is brave enough to place the complexities of IVF and the strange world of grief that the infertile inhabit in such direct light. Kathryn Millington’s collection Imprint does just that. This is a story of confrontation and acceptance, a journey into a world that feels niche, but is anything but. The poetry world benefits from sharing experience, it will be enriched by this collection.”

Wendy Pratt

‘” Kathryn’s poems move me, make me laugh, reflect on this strange business we call life and feel more hopeful about navigating a path through it. These are tender, beautifully crafted poems that work on the page and in the air. Read them, keep them with you.’

Helen Mort

“I am at a loss for words, because you have said them all”

Benjamin Zephaniah

NaPoWriMo 2025

My personal project for #NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month) is a tiny little project "resonant whispers" where I will write, short intimate pieces, reflections you could say, capturing the quiet moments and lingering feelings that shape our lives. Ghosts, personal experiences, raw emotions and the subtle beauty of the everyday.

For all of these poems, I will be stripping down my poetry to just two lines per poem, with a / in between each line to offer a breath to strip each poem and moment into its purest form, creating a collection of resonant whispers, poetry to bloom within the sparsest of lines and where I do a direct piece from the official NaPoWriMo prompts (I have no intention of doing them all),

I'll include it beneath with their prompt so you can see how my mind works.

Full archive of both of these projects are here:

https://andynartist.substack.com/p/napowrimo-2025 (Reasonant Whispers)

https://andynartist.substack.com/p/napowrimo-poems (Whatever I write

from the official prompts)

**

(I)

Your ex describes you both on Facebook as a good-looking couple / the envy sneaks through in just a few words.

**

Prompt 1:

(Prompt from NaPoWriMo) And now, to round out our first day, here’s our optional prompt! As with pretty much any discipline, music and art have their own vocabulary. Today, we challenge you to take inspiration from this glossary of musical terms)

*

“Dancing like a ghost, the words fall out of the actor’s mouth almost like they are speaking about their own lives, half-forgotten like a ballad opera remixed for the modern day, contradicting the play they are meant to be performing.

Basked in the moonlight, – each line a mirror to their soul, warped into a different meaning rewriting the past as much as hollowing out the truth, the play losing it’s meaning becoming more and more like a melodrama instead of naturalist with each step.”

New from Spoken Label Tik Tok Kathryn Millington

Latest up from Spoken Label Tik Tok features making her debut is Kathryn Millington talking about her debut poetry collection 'Imprint'.

Some thoughts said about Kathryn's collection:

“It is rare to find a collection that is brave enough to place the complexities of IVF and the strange world of grief that the infertile inhabit in such direct light. Kate Millington’s collection Imprint does just that. This is a story of confrontation and acceptance, a journey into a world that feels niche, but is anything but. The poetry world benefits from sharing experience, it will be enriched by this collection.”

Wendy Pratt

‘”Kate’s poems move me, make me laugh, make me reflect on this strange business we call life and feel more hopeful about navigating a path through it. These are tender, beautifully-crafted poems that work on the page and in the air. Read them, keep them with you.’

Helen Mort

‘”Kathryn Millington’s Imprint is a gutting account of involuntary childlessness. Adeptly bending rhyme and form, Millington conjures yearning visions of the future alongside memories that ache and sing with loss. In this compelling debut pamphlet, grief is bound in the strings of “a mobile, shot through with sunlight” and hope is a stinging barb that pierces the reader again and again.”

Chris Lanyon

“I am at a loss for words, because you have said them all”

Benjamin Zephaniah

A full length podcast with Kathryn will follow in April 2025.

New Spoken Label Podcast - Evrah Rose

Latest up from Spoken Label (Spoken Word / Poetry) features making their debut is Evrah Rose.

Evrah Rose is a dynamic force in contemporary poetry and spoken word, known for her fearless approach to storytelling and her dedication to social justice. As a two-time published author, record label founder, and recipient of the F. Jones Award, Evrah has made a significant impact both locally and nationally. Her work fuses rhythmic storytelling, hip-hop, and raw, conscious poetry, drawing inspiration from luminaries such as Tupac Shakur, Stacey-Ann Chin, and Kae Tempest.

With several million streams on her spoken word films, Evrah has become a prominent voice in tackling serious societal issues. Her reach extends across major platforms such as the BBC, The Times, ITV, and BBC Sport, where she has featured on radio and TV, including presenting on BBC Radio 5 Live. Extending her impact, Evrah was a BBC Bitesize panel member during the BBC’s centenary UK tour in 2022, inspiring young minds to explore careers in storytelling.

Her creative endeavors are extensive, with residencies at Wrexham AFC and Tŷ Pawb, and commissions for organizations such as Shelter Cymru, Chwarae Teg, and The Bevan Foundation.

A captivating performer, Evrah has headlined events across the UK, from Apples and Snakes and Speak Your Mind, to the Homeless World Cup, and Wrexham AFC's Cae Ras stadium.

Her poetry film, Will You Be Coming Back?, raises awareness about domestic violence in same-sex relationships, while her contribution to Welsh Women’s Aid’s “Live Fear Free” campaign underscores her commitment to combating gender-based violence.

In September 2024, Evrah wrote and performed the opening piece for New Sinfonia’s opera, 'Gresford: Up from Underground', a moving tribute to the 90th anniversary of the Gresford mining disaster. Her performance, accompanied by the New Sinfonia orchestra, took place before a live audience at the historic Wrexham Parish Church, blending powerful spoken word with orchestral arrangements to honor the memory of those affected by one of Wales’ most tragic mining events.

Evrah’s powerful film, 'Invisible Me', is currently touring galleries across Wales as part of Wanda and David Garner’s acclaimed exhibition, 'Pantomime/Behind The Mask'. Showcasing her signature raw and evocative style, the film delves into themes of identity, isolation and the hidden struggles associated with chronic illness. Invisible Me was recently selected by SYMUD to feature in their 'Exhibition of Moving Images' in CARN.

Evrah’s highly anticipated third musical project, 'Link In Bio', is set for release in early 2025, promising to further cement her reputation as a fearless and innovative voice in contemporary music and spoken word.
